PANTHER’S PLACE

Game Chip Set Replacment

Replacing the game chips on your PlayChoice 10 PCB’s is very easy.

All you need is a flat head screwdriver.

There are a few things you do need to keep in mind when replacing these chip sets.

  1. Make sure to pull the chips out as evenly as possible to prevent bending the pins.
  2. Make sure you install the replacement chips in the right direction. You will find a small notch in the center of one end of the chip that identifies the pin 1 location.
  3. Make sure you keep your original chip sets in a safe dry place. These chips are not as easy to duplicate as the NES conversion game chips and some of them cannot be duplicated.
  4. Make sure the chips you are removing are marked properly so you can reinstall them later when you need to.

5.      Make sure you identify the right chips to pull. They are marked with a U1, U2, U3, etc.  The chip sets you receive from me will identify the correct chips to replace.  Leave all other chips alone, they do not need to be changed for the new game and must be in place for the game to work.

Using a small flat head screwdriver, slide the screwdriver between the EPROM chip you are pulling and the socket it sits in Wile turning the screwdriver slightly back and forth to lift the chip evenly out of the socket.

This will raise the chip slowly out of the socket with out bending the pins in the process.

Check to make sure you did not bend any pins and straiten any that may have bent.

Check the pins on the chip you are going to put in and make sure they are strait as well.

With the Game Cartridge positioned so you can read the label text properly

Place the game chips into the empty socket making sure the small notch found on one end of the EPROM chip is on the left.

IF YOU INSTALL THE CHIPS WITH THE NOTCH TO THE RIGHT, THE GAME WILL PROBABLY NOT WORK ANY MORE!

Check to make sure that all the pins are lined up in the socket.

Then gently press down on the center of the chip to push it into the socket evenly.

Check again to make sure none of the pins were bent when you pushed the EPROM’s into position.

NOW YOU CAN PLUG IN THE GAME CARTRIDGE AND PLAY YOUR NEW GAME!

IF THE CHIP SET DOES NOT WORK

Examine the game cartridge and make sure you have the chips plugged into the right sockets U1, U2, etc. and did not get mixed up. The game cartridge has this number etched on the board by the socket.

Make sure the small notch on the EPROM chip is on the left like the other chips on the game cartridge.

IF YOU INSTALL THE CHIPS WITH THE NOTCH TO THE RIGHT, THE GAME WILL PROBABLY NOT WORK ANY MORE!

Pull the chips and check the pins.

If one of the pins bent under the EPROM you may not be able to see it when the chip is in place.
